Rationalist Affirmation

Tallinn Declaration 2016

The following declaration was adopted by the Rationalist International Conference held at Tallinn, the capital of Estonia on 23-24 April 2016

Rationalism is a worldview based on a scientific attitude and a humane value system.  It aims at society, polity, education, and value system free from the influence of religions, dogma, or arbitrary assumptions of authority.

Rationalists value human heritage and civilisation and consider art, literature, and culture as carriers of it.

Rationalists strive to establish a society free from prejudices and discrimination based on religion, race, nationality, language, ethnicity, caste, gender, age,  sexual orientation or disability.

Rationalists aim for a free democratic, tolerant society, respecting critical inquiry, the spirit of reform, dialogue, rights of individuals, responsibility to fellow beings, free speech and human rights.

Rationalists care for the future of the planet earth, our environment, and good use of science and technology.
