COW POLITICS IN INDIA

This year, India’s government asked citizens to spend Valentine’s Day hugging a cow. In a statement this week, the government-run animal welfare department announced Cow Hug Day to replace Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February.

Amid widespread criticism, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) on Friday said it has withdrawn the appeal to celebrate February 14 as 'Cow Hug Day' following directions from the government. It's a good step.

The Politics of Cow has deep roots in India and it often leads to absurdity and violence. The cow-politics is not limited to worshipping cows. Some cow radicals celebrate cow urine and cow dung as medicine or a vaccine. Cow urine is sold in many ayurvedic outlets in India, as an all-cure medicine to drink.
